Meet the Norwegian Forest Cat
As the name indicates, the Norwegian Forest Cat once lived in the woods of Norway. It is an ancient natural breed. Lack of attention to the breed almost caused its extinction. The reversal occurred in the early 1970s when a breed club was organized to preserve the Forest Cats. By the late 1970s, these cats came to the United States. Because of its similarity to the Maine Coon, Forest Cats were not recognized in the U.S. until the late 1980s.
The Forest Cat has a muscular large body and legs of medium length, with. The coat is water resistant. While it is not shaggy, it is uneven looking. Minimal combing is required, unless the cat is shedding.
These wild-looking and beautiful cats come only with longhair but in any color combination, except colorpointed, solid lilac, and chocolate. They like being outside to hunt and climb. They also like the attention they receive indoors from their humans—being petted and handled. They return the favor with loyalty and good companionship!
