Meet the Maine Coon

Amiable and amusing, the Maine Coon makes an ideal domestic pet. Maine Coons are perhaps the first American breed of cat and may be descendants of the domestic cats that were the first to arrive in North America. Maine Coons are intelligent and loving. They are gentle with children. Their "speech" is a chirping sound.

As one of the largest breeds, Maine Coons are more muscular than most longhaired breeds. They have a shiny, thick coat that is long and shaggy. This heavy coat requires daily grooming. The only colors they do not appear in are colorpointed, solid lilac, and solid chocolate. Their legs are solid and of medium length.
