Meet the Exotic Shorthair
As a combination of the Persian and American Shorthair, the Exotic Shorthair has the placid, affectionate nature of the Persian with the playful inquisitiveness of the American Shorthair. The Exotic makes an ideal pet for the entire family. It is a friendly, lovable, and quiet cat.
Before 1967 when this breed was accepted for championship showing, the Domestic Shorthair was bred with the Persian Cat to improve the coat. The result became more popular than the original Domestic Shorthair that carried the full pedigree. In 1967, the Cat Fanciers' Association permitted this new breed to be called Exotic Shorthair.
In appearance, this cat resembles the Persian, except in the coat length. It is a medium- to large-sized cat and has short, thick, and strong legs. The thick, soft coat provides protection in colder climates. Regular combings should be done, with extra grooming during shedding time to avoid hairballs. All colors are acceptable for the Exotic. For showing purposes, the eye color must conform to the coat color.
