Cat Breeds S-Z > Turkish Van

Meet the Turkish Van

As the only cat to love the water, the Turkish Van finds enjoyment in swimming! They will choose to have a bath. Suitable to indoor life, they have a gentle and affectionate personality. However, they are not lap cats but are active and smart. Since they are prone to nervousness, gentle and regular handling from an early age is recommended.

Native to Western Turkey, they arrived in England in the 1950s. By 1969, they had been accepted for championship show in Britain. In the following year, Turkish Vans came to the United States. By 1985, they were registered in the U.S.

The Turkish Van is white, and their pattern is van. They are a solid cat with a broad chest. Their thick body has long legs that are muscular and wide set. The semi-long coat feels like cashmere. After a swim, their coat will dry quickly because it has no undercoat.

Come on in and tell us about your Turkish Van!
