As the oldest of the world's three hairless breeds of cats, Sphynx are lively and personable. They are ideal pets for the active, multi-pet household. They must be kept indoors because their skin will get sunburned if exposed for long periods.

Their ancestry began in Canada during the 1960s. The first Sphynx was a spontaneous mutation that was born of domestic parents. A breeding program was begun with this female kitten. From that start, Sphynx appeared next in the Netherlands, then throughout the world.
