Cat Breeds S-Z > Selkirk Rex

Meet the Selkirk Rex

The Selkirk Rex makes a wonderful, gentle, and affectionate pet. They are very patient, loving, and tolerant and are healthy and sturdy.

Curly kittens in a litter can be distinguished from the "straight-haired" littermates by their curly whiskers. These curly-coated kittens are playful and irresistible to watch. While they grow, the curl can vary but remains with them. However, their curly whiskers can become brittle and break off, which leaves them with almost no whiskers.

Combing and brushing before bathing will maintain the curl and coat. Combing and brushing too much will straighten the hairs and make the curl less obvious. A shampoo that doesn't coat the hair but leaves it silky and clean is the best to allow the hairs to curl.

Not many curly pets are available currently. Most of these females are in breeding programs. Male cats are usually more available.
